Many people plan a scuba trip to Thailand because Diving in Thailand is a absolutely awesome. A question often asked is “where is the best diving in thailand?” Every dive site is different and the array of marine life is impressive!

There are also hundreds of dive centres just waiting to help you explore the underwater world, but with so many locations to choose from, how do you know which will be best for you. We have traveled and dived in Thailand and we think the best diving in Thailand starts at the 3 main Islands of Koh Phangan, Khao Lak and Phuket.

Dive Koh Phangan

Home to the world renowned, Full Moon Party, Koh Phangan is a great place to spend a scuba diving vacation in Thailand. After all, what could be more fun than scuba diving the crystal clear waters during the day time, and partying with buckets of vodka redbull during the night time?! Okay so diving and drinking isn’t recommended but you get the point.

Almost all of the dive centres on Koh Phangan will take you to the nearby island of Koh Tao. Around 30 minutes away by boat, Koh Tao offers the best diving in thailand for beginners.

That doesn’t mean it’s no good for experts either but the beginner sites make for a great first experience. Scuba divers opting to travel to Koh Phangan can expect fantastic visibility almost all year round (avoid Nov-Jan if you can) and a variety of marine life including rays, barracuda, moray eels… and sometimes the elusive whale shark may even make an appearance.

Dive: Khao Lak

Aaah Khao Lak This is the ideal place to take a scuba diving holiday as it is the gateway to the Similan Islands which are some of the most exquisite islands in the whole of Thailand. The Similan islands offer, in my opinion the best diving in thailand as there is literally so much to see and so many different sites that you will never, ever get bored!

Both day trips and liveaboard dive boats depart from Khao Lak on a daily basis, and with so many dive sites in the area, you will never find it too crowded. Sharks, turtles, rays, octopuses, eels, seahorses… the list goes on! And with stunning coral reefs, wrecks and caves, could you think of a better location to spend a week diving.

Dive: Phuket

Phuket is a very popular scuba dive destination in Thailand, and the numerous direct flights to the island from Europe have only helped to contribute to this. Both day dives and liveaboard adventures are available from Phuket, and the fantastic dive conditions have led to it being listed in this guide as one of the best spots for diving in thailand

If you want to mix up your dive holiday with a variety of different sites, this is the location for you as Phuket is home to not only stunning coral reefs but some awesome wrecks too! And, let’s not forget that the Phi Phi islands (known for their part in the James Bond film) are not far away.

Phuket is ideal for both beginners and advanced divers and with dozens of dive sites, there is something for everyone to enjoy! Watch the crowds in the high season though!
